Saturday, May 14th was a special day for the winemakers of Lazio, who came together to celebrate the election of Ludovico Maria Botti, winemaker of the Trebotti organic estate, to the National Council of the Federation.
The day began at MUVIS, the Wine and Gastronomy Sciences Museum in Castiglione in Teverina, in the Tuscia area https://muvis.it/, with a conference and tasting focused on the longevity of Lazio’s white wines.
After the welcome from Leonardo Zannini, Mayor of Castiglione in Teverina, and opening remarks by Enrica Onorati, Regional Councillor for Agriculture, Forestry, Food Chain Promotion, Food Culture and Equal Opportunities for Lazio, and Francesco Monzillo of the CCIAA of Rieti and Viterbo, Ludovico Maria Botti, as event organizer, presented the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers (FIVI), its values and the event organized by the FIVI Lazio delegation. Then the focus shifted to the wines: guided by the engaging moderation of Gianluca Semprini, the topic was explored by Giuseppe Mottura, Carla Trimani, Carlo Zucchetti and Giampaolo Gravina. Tasting 15 white wines from FIVI producers, with vintages ranging from 2016 to 1988 (list attached), confirmed the technical and critical insights discussed; the Vigneron’s Saturday continued among the vines at the Trebotti organic estate with 28 tasting tables (photo), with special guests from the FIVI delegations of Umbria and Abruzzo.
Under the warm spring sun, more than 500 visitors discovered or revisited wines full of character from the main production areas of the region and, above all, met the winemakers who craft them with dedication in a friendly and informal atmosphere.
The closing moment of the Vigneron’s Saturday was entrusted to the percussion beats of the 30-member Caracca Traveling Drummers, www.caracca.it, and their vibrant sounds.
