The Longevity of Lazio’s White Wines at Center Stage in a Conference Led by Journalist Gianluca Semprini. 30 Winemakers and Over 150 Wines at the Tasting Stands
On May 14th in Castiglione in Teverina (Viterbo), the FIVI Winemaker’s Saturday will take place — an opportunity for FIVI producers to meet industry professionals and wine lovers. Eighteen events have been organized across Italy by the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers to showcase the local stories of its 1,400+ members.
Thirty producers, mainly from Lazio but also from Umbria and Abruzzo, will offer a festive day full of activities and insights. The day kicks off at 10:30 am with a conference reserved for professionals and institutions titled The Longevity of Lazio’s White Wines. Winegrowers and experts will discuss the topic guided by Gianluca Semprini, RAI journalist and wine enthusiast, in the conference hall of MUVIS – Wine and Agro-Food Sciences Museum in Castiglione in Teverina, Europe’s largest of its kind. The moderator will lead a tasting of carefully selected old vintages of white wines, aged from 5 to 30 years, revealing through a fascinating vertical tasting the maturity that comes from the region’s soil, mostly native grape varieties, and the perseverance of its producers.
From 9 am to 12 pm, visitors can also tour the Wine and Agro-Food Sciences Museum with a symbolic donation of 2 euros.
The event will come alive with The Winemakers’ Market among the Vineyards: until sunset, visitors can meet the members right at home, among the rows of vines at the organic winery Trebotti. “Those taking part will experience our world — the vineyard — our workspace and living space,” says Ludovico Maria Botti, national board member of the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers. “In true FIVI spirit of open sharing, this is a chance to meet the producers who personally follow every step, from cultivation to winemaking and sales.”
Another highlight will be the Vineyard Life Workshop: a chance to get to know the work done among the vines and to appreciate the differences between grape varieties, explained directly by the Winegrowers. This experience takes guests through the activities during the spring budburst — one of the most fascinating times of the year.
In the afternoon, guests can taste a variety of Lazio’s artisanal specialties, from porchetta and vignarola to gelato — plus the classic broad beans with pecorino cheese. The Winemaker’s Saturday will conclude with a concert among the vineyards by the Caracca Tamburi Itineranti, twenty percussionists who will energize both guests and vines with their rhythmic beats.
Throughout the event, a babysitting and children’s entertainment service will be available.
