Experience the BioHarvest – Sunday, September 12th, from Morning to Sunset – Thanks to Trebotti, an Unforgettable Day in Tuscia

The organic Trebotti winery opens the doors of its cellar and vineyards to let everyone experience the harvest — one of the oldest rituals of rural culture — through tradition, farm-style cuisine, music, art, tastings, and above all, good wine.

The responsible management of a company, with an environmental and ethical perspective, is the basis for a healthy and conscious relationship with the environment and the community that hosts the company itself. Being the owner of a company also means being responsible for the impact the company (especially in the agri-food sector) has on the environment and the surrounding community.

In the agri-food sector, in particular, the added value a company like this can offer is communication and dialogue with the outside world.

Indeed, sharing its good practices is an extra sign of care for the territory that a responsible company can demonstrate: it means showcasing the quality of its products while raising awareness, spreading knowledge, and laying the foundations to foster a sense of responsibility in everyone who comes into contact with the company (employees, friends, clients, suppliers, etc.).

And starting from this idea, the organic and eco-sustainable Trebotti winery created the motto “Trebotti in Teverina: wine, art, culture!”. This slogan has inspired a wide range of events over nearly 20 years.
Concerts, talks, tastings, art exhibitions, photo shows, and much more.

Among all these events, the BioHarvest stands out for its importance and popularity.

For 9 years now, every September, the winery has welcomed hundreds of people (over 3,000 in total so far) from early morning for an unforgettable day of harvesting, traditions, traditional dishes, local wines, art exhibitions, live music, and in-depth tastings.

On Sunday, September 12th, as usual, those who wish can start around 8 am, heading to the vineyard where expert staff will guide adults and children through the rows. From there, you can follow the journey of your picked grapes from the vine to the cellar.

And since working in the vineyard takes energy, just like in the past, mid-morning there will be a snack of grapes with bread, honey, and almonds. The perfect boost when working among the vines — hydration and energy from bread carbohydrates, grape and honey sugars, and nuts — all organic products from Trebotti!

At 12:00, the ancient ritual of children’s barefoot grape stomping returns, with their laughter and joy creating one of the most special moments of the day, as young and old reconnect with nature.

The day continues with lunch among the vines. The menu is rich with dishes featuring Terramor organic products from the winery and other local producers. Every year, the dishes are inspired by the advice of local elders who were interviewed to learn what was traditionally eaten during the harvest. So you’ll find salt cod stewed with wild fennel — once a humble inland dish, now a sought-after specialty — lombrichelli, a typical Tuscia pasta, sausages slow-cooked with freshly picked grapes, and many other dishes that are not only delicious but also tell a story.

Lunch will be accompanied by live music from the 15-member band “La Banda: rhythm ‘n’ blues revue.” Voices, choirs, percussion, strings, brass, and keyboards will set the mood with top-quality live music, Italian and international.

As mentioned earlier about sharing good practices, throughout the day there will be guided tours of the winery: a pleasant walk where the vineyard, garden, olive grove, donkey Jane, experimental garden, Etruscan cave where the sparkling wine matures, and cellar will be shown and explained to everyone curious to discover more about Trebotti’s dedication to product quality, health, and environmental sustainability. Trebotti is among the first carbon-neutral winemakers in the world!

Back to the motto “Trebotti in Teverina: wine, art, culture!” — another key element besides music and food is art. Throughout the day you can visit the temporary exhibition ‘Between Sky and Earth’ by Carmine Leta, a Calabrian-born artist who lives and works in Tuscia. Leta’s works, which align with Trebotti’s philosophy, explore the concept of recycling and upcycling materials (for example, one of his pieces is a faun made from a bundle of iron wire found in an abandoned vineyard). Over the years, Trebotti has been creating an art path from the vineyards to the cellar, blending nature and creativity. Thanks to this tradition of hosting artists during BioHarvest, you’ll discover various works around the estate, including a new piece by Carmine Leta this year.

As if that weren’t enough, for those who want to dive deeper into the fascinating world of wine tasting, in the afternoon there will be a technical tasting led by Giampaolo Gravina (wine writer and educator) in collaboration with Samuele Calistri (Wines & Spirits Education Trust – Calistri Wines). This year’s theme is special: a comparison of Italian and French Independent Winegrowers.

Trebotti is part of the FIVI – Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers and Ludovico, the head of the winery, is the Lazio delegate. Its French counterpart is the Vignerons Indépendants de France, which inspired this unique tasting (guided by oenologists, sommeliers, and journalists) offering an Italian-French winemakers’ exchange. Seats are limited and booking is required.

We have an efficient online booking system that allows you to join the BioHarvest, which will take place mostly outdoors to ensure compliance with Covid regulations.

BioHarvest is a wine event but also suitable for children and whole families because, while wine is central, it becomes a means to tell a broader story and promote healthy, fair agriculture.
